How to use it

Choose a photo, then drag it inside the circle to choose what shows and zoom with the slider, a pinch or your mouse wheel. The preview beside it shows your picture the way people will see it in a social app: big on your profile, in a story ring, next to a post, in a comment and in messages, in light and dark mode. Type your username to make the preview feel real. The At every size row is the honest test: if your face is still clear at the tiny size, the picture works.

Press Make the picture and download it. The saved file is a square: Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord and most other apps cut the circle themselves, so a square file keeps your framing and still looks right in apps that show square corners.

Tips for a profile picture that reads well

Fill most of the circle with your face; a full-body shot turns into a dot at small sizes. Leave a little space above your head so the circle doesn’t cut it off. A plain or blurred background and good light on your face matter more than the camera. Check it in dark mode too: a dark photo can vanish against a black screen.

Questions

What size should a profile picture be? 1080 × 1080 pixels is plenty for every app; most show it at 320 pixels or less. 400 × 400 keeps the file small if an app has an upload limit. Is my photo uploaded? No. It is opened and cropped inside your browser. Can I use an iPhone HEIC photo? Browsers can’t open HEIC; share it as JPG first, or use the Image Converter.
