How to make graph paper

Choose a paper type: a square grid for maths, plans and pixel art; a dot grid for sketching and bullet-journal pages; isometric paper, with lines at 30 degrees, for drawing three-dimensional objects; or lined paper for writing. Set the spacing in millimeters (5 mm is the common size for graph paper, 10 mm gives big squares for young children, and 2 or 3 mm is fine for detailed work), choose US Letter or A4, and set a margin. The preview is the actual sheet. The darker line on every fifth line of the square grid makes counting squares easier.

Printing at true size

Press Print, and in the print window choose a scale of 100% (not “fit to page” or “shrink to fit”), because scaling changes the size of the squares. Pick Portrait or Landscape to match the box you ticked. Most printers can’t print right to the edge of the paper, so keep the margin at 5 mm or more. If you would like to keep the file, choose “Save as PDF” as the printer.

Questions

Can I get centimeter or inch graph paper? Yes: 10 mm gives 1 cm squares, and 25.4 mm gives 1 inch squares (the spacing box accepts decimals up to 40 mm). Why are my squares not exactly 5 mm? Check that the print scale is 100% and that your browser is not adding headers or scaling the page. Is anything uploaded? No, the paper is drawn in your browser.
