How to play the Spanish Sentence Builder
You get a sentence in English and a tray of Spanish words. Tap the words in order to build the Spanish; tap a word in your sentence to send it back. Press Check (or Enter) when it’s done.
Each tray has a word or two that don’t belong: the wrong verb form, ser where it should be estar, a preposition Spanish doesn’t use there. Leave them out. Where Spanish allows more than one word order with the same words, any of them counts.
A round is eight sentences at one level:
- Basics: ser and estar, tener, hay and the present tense.
- Everyday: gustar, ir a, tener que, reflexive verbs and object pronouns.
- Past and beyond: the preterite and imperfect, the perfect tenses, the future and the subjunctive.
Tips
- Find the verb first; its ending tells you who is doing it, so you can often leave out the subject (yo, nosotros).
- Adjectives usually go after the noun and match it: la casa pequeña.
- Read the note after each sentence. It names the rule the traps were testing.
