How to play
Word Ghost is the old spelling game Ghost. Players take turns adding one letter to the end of the letters so far. The letters must always be the start of a real word, but whoever finishes a word of four letters or more loses the round.
- Bluffing is allowed. If you can’t think of a word, add a letter anyway and hope nobody notices.
- Challenge instead of adding a letter if you think no word starts with the letters so far. If one does, you lose the round and the game shows you a word; if none does, the player who added the last letter loses.
- Each lost round earns you a letter of G-H-O-S-T. Spell the whole word and you’re out. The last player left wins, and whoever lost a round starts the next one.
Words come from the public-domain ENABLE word list, so some unusual words count. Short words of three letters (like CAT) don’t end a round.
Tips
Count ahead. With two players, if a word is six letters long, the player who adds the sixth letter loses, so try to steer toward words that end on your rival’s turn. Longer words like QUACKING give you more room to wriggle. And if the letters start looking strange, someone may be bluffing.
