How to play

Everyone gets a secret role. Most players are villagers. Hidden among them are one to three wolves (one for 5 or 6 players, two for 7 to 9, three for 10 or more), who know each other. There is always a seer, and usually a healer.

Each night, every player takes a turn in secret. The wolves choose someone to take. The seer picks one player and learns whether they are a wolf. The healer picks one player to protect; if the wolves choose that player, they survive. Villagers just tap through, so nobody can tell roles apart by how long a turn takes.

In the morning the game tells everyone who was taken. Then it’s day: talk it over, accuse, defend, and vote to banish one player (a tie banishes nobody). The village wins when every wolf is gone. The wolves win when there are as many wolves as everyone else.

One phone or online

On one phone, pass it round: each player taps their name to see their role and take their night turn while the others close their eyes. The day vote is decided out loud and entered once. To play on a video or voice call, use Play online (when it’s available): every phone shows only its owner’s role, the wolves see each other’s picks, and everyone votes on their own screen.

Tips

Villagers: ask questions and watch how people vote; wolves often steer suspicion toward the same person. Seer: you know the truth, but saying so makes you the wolves’ next target, so pick your moment. Wolves: vote with the crowd, defend each other only a little, and don’t all go quiet at once.
