How to play the Wizard Crossword

Every day there’s a new criss-cross grid of about eight answers from the Harry Potter books: people, spells, creatures, places, potions and the odd Quidditch term. Each answer is one word with no spaces.

• Typing: tap or click a square and type. The cursor moves along the word.
• Switching direction: press Space, or tap the same square again, to go between Across and Down.
• Moving around: arrow keys, or Tab to jump to the next clue.
• Check and Reveal work on one square, one word or the whole puzzle.

Streaks and past puzzles

Solve the day’s puzzle on the day, without Reveal, to keep your streak going. Past puzzles has every earlier day. When you finish you get a share text with one square per answer, so you can compare with friends without spoilers.

Tips

• Surnames and first names both turn up, so count the squares before you commit.
• Spells are written as one word, the way they’re cast.
• Fill the crossing letters first: a long name gets much easier with two letters in place.
