How to play
All the discs start stacked on the left peg, biggest at the bottom. Move the whole stack to the right peg. You can move only one disc at a time, only the top disc of a peg, and you can never put a bigger disc on top of a smaller one. Tap a peg to pick up its top disc, then tap the peg where it should go. Tap the same peg again to put it back.
You can play with 3 to 8 discs. With n discs the fewest possible moves is 2n − 1: 7 moves for 3 discs, 15 for 4, and 255 for 8. The counter shows the minimum so you can see how close you got. Hint shows the next move of a shortest solution from wherever you are.
Tips
Think of the biggest disc first. To move it you must have every other disc on the spare peg, so to move a tower of n you first move a tower of n − 1 out of the way, then the big disc, then the smaller tower back on top. With an odd number of discs, move the smallest disc to the target peg first; with an even number, to the spare peg first. Then alternate: move the smallest disc one peg onward in the same direction, then make the only other legal move. Repeat and you will finish in the minimum number of moves.
