Cleaning up text

Text copied from a PDF, an email or a web page often arrives with extra spaces, stray line breaks and curly quotes. Paste it in, tick the fixes you want, and the cleaned text appears on the right, ready to copy. The fixes run in the order listed, so, for example, trimming each line before removing blank lines also removes lines that contain only spaces. Join lines into one paragraph fixes text that has a hard line break at the end of every line, as PDF copies often do. Remove accents turns é into e and ñ into n, which is useful for file names and search keys. Straighten quotes swaps curly quotes, long dashes and the ellipsis character for plain keyboard characters.

Slugs and repeating

The URL slug tab turns each line into a clean web address piece: lower case, accents removed, anything that isn’t a letter or number replaced by a hyphen (or underscore), with no hyphens at the ends. “Café Crème: the Best!” becomes cafe-creme-the-best. The Repeat text tab copies your text up to 1000 times with whatever you want between the copies, such as a space, a comma or a new line, which is handy for making test data or filling a template.

Questions

Is my text stored? No. It is processed in your browser and cleared when you leave. What about changing capital letters? Use the Text Case Converter. How do I replace one word with another? Use Find and Replace. Does reversing break emoji? No, each emoji or accented character is treated as one unit.
