How to make a strong password

  1. Choose Password or Passphrase.
  2. For a password, set the length and which kinds of character to use. Longer matters more than fancier: 16 or more is a good start.
  3. For a passphrase, pick how many words. Four random words is strong and far easier to remember and type than random characters.
  4. Press Copy, then paste it into your password manager or the sign-up form.

Questions

Is it really random? Yes. It uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for encryption keys.

Does it see or store my password? No. Passwords are made on your device and never sent or saved. Only your settings (length, toggles) are remembered.

What does the strength meter mean? It counts how many guesses an attacker would need on average: “bits” double with every extra bit. Below 40 is weak, 60 is fair for low-value accounts, and 80 or more is strong. Passwords from this page are random, so the number is exact, not a guess.

Why skip look-alikes? Characters like O and 0, or l and 1, are easy to mix up when you read a password aloud or type it from paper.

Should I reuse it? No. Use a different password for every site, and keep them in a password manager so you don’t have to remember them.
