How to use the metronome

  1. Set the tempo with the slider, the − and + buttons, or type a number. 30 to 250 beats per minute (BPM).
  2. Choose beats per bar. The first beat of each bar gets a higher click, so you can hear where the bar starts.
  3. Press Start. The dots and the bar light up with each beat, so you can follow it without sound.
  4. Don’t know the tempo? Tap Tap tempo in time with the music, four or more times.

On a keyboard: Space starts and stops, and the up and down arrows change the tempo by 1.

Questions

Is it steady? Yes. The clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the browser’s audio clock, not triggered one at a time, so a busy page won’t make the beat drift.

No sound on my phone? Check that the phone isn’t on silent, and that the button in the top corner says “Sound on”. Browsers only play sound after you tap something, so press Start.

What do Andante and Allegro mean? They’re Italian tempo names: around 76–108 BPM is Andante (walking pace), 120–156 Moderato to Allegro (lively), and 168 and up is Vivace to Presto (fast).

Are my settings saved? The tempo, beats per bar and sound switch are remembered on this device.
