How the GPA is worked out
Each letter grade has grade points on the common US 4.0 scale: A is 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F, which is 0. A course’s points are its grade points times its credits. Your GPA is all the points divided by all the credits, so a 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit one.
Switch on weighted GPA to add 0.5 for honors courses and 1.0 for AP or IB courses. Failed courses get no bonus. Schools differ here (some cap at 5.0, some only weight certain grades), so use this for an estimate and check your school’s rules for the official number.
The final exam box
Type your current grade, how much of the course grade the final is worth, and the grade you want. The result is the score needed on the final: (target − current × the share already earned) ÷ the final’s share. Over 100% means the target can’t be reached without extra credit.
Questions
Are my grades stored? They are kept in this browser only, so you can come back and update them. Nothing is sent anywhere. Reset clears them.
Does it handle pass/fail or other scales? No. Leave pass/fail courses out. For a percentage-to-percentage average, the final exam box does the weighting.
