How to use it
Pick your units, then type the distance of the trip, your car’s fuel economy and the price of fuel. The page shows the fuel needed, the total cost and the cost per kilometer or mile. If you share the ride, enter the number of people for the cost per person, and switch on round trip to count the way back.
Economy is entered the way your country quotes it: litres per 100 km (lower is better), or miles per gallon (higher is better). Note that a US gallon (3.79 litres) is smaller than a UK gallon (4.55 litres), so 30 mpg means different things in each; pick the matching unit.
Questions
Where do I find my fuel economy? The car’s trip computer, its manual, or fill the tank, drive, refill and divide the fuel added by the distance. Real-world figures are usually a little worse than the official ones, especially in town, with a heavy load, or in cold weather.
Does it include tolls, parking or wear? No, only fuel. Add those separately. Is anything stored? Your units, economy and price are saved in this browser so they are ready next time; the distance is not. For other conversions, try the Unit Converter.
