How to play

Everyone is on the same team. There are forty cards: four colours (Sky, Rose, Reed and Sun) numbered 1 to 9, and four Moon cards numbered 1 to 4, which are trumps. All the cards are dealt out. Whoever holds the Moon 4 is the captain and leads the first trick.

Each mission turns up some task cards. Starting with the captain, players take them one at a time. A task says: “I must win the trick that has this card in it.” If anyone else wins that trick, the mission fails. It succeeds once every task is done.

In a trick, follow the colour that was led if you can; otherwise play any card. The highest Moon wins; with no Moon, the highest card of the colour led wins. The winner leads the next trick. From mission 4 on, some tasks are numbered: they must be done in that order.

You can’t talk about your cards. Instead, once a mission, before a trick starts, you may signal one coloured card from your hand, showing whether it is your highest, lowest or only card of that colour.

Tips

If you hold a task card’s colour high, lead a low card in it and let its owner win. Get rid of high cards in colours with no tasks early, so they can’t win the wrong trick later. A signal is most useful for showing that you hold the top card of a colour, or that you’re about to run out of one.
