How to play
The whole deck is dealt face down. Nobody looks at their cards. In turn, everyone flips their top card onto the pile in the middle.
Watch the pile. When the top two cards are the same rank (a pair, like two sevens) or the top card matches the third one down (a sandwich, like 7, 4, 7), splash it. The first to splash takes the whole pile under their stack and flips next. Splash when there’s nothing there and your top card goes under the pile.
A jack, queen, king or ace is a challenge. The next player gets one, two, three or four tries to turn up a face card of their own. If they do, the challenge passes on to the next player. If they don’t, whoever played the face card takes the pile, unless someone splashes it first.
Run out of cards and you can still splash your way back in. Win every card to win the game. After three minutes, whoever holds the most cards wins.
Tips
Keep your eyes on the pile, not your stack. Sandwiches are easy to miss, and that’s where most piles are won. On a keyboard, F flips and the space bar splashes. A face card near the end of a big pile is worth a lot, so don’t relax during a challenge: a splash beats it.
