How to play

You are the snake. It moves by itself, and you choose where it turns. Steer it onto the red apples: each one makes the snake a cell longer and scores a point. The game ends if you crash into the wall or into your own body. The first turn you make starts the game. On a computer use the arrow keys or WASD, and press the space bar to pause. On a phone, swipe on the board in the direction you want to go, tap it to pause, or use the arrow buttons underneath.

Choose Solid walls for the classic game, or Wrap around, where leaving one edge brings you back on the opposite side. Speed 1 is relaxed and speed 5 is fast, and the snake speeds up a little as it grows. Your best score is saved separately for each wall setting.

Tips

Plan your path a few moves ahead instead of chasing each apple. Stay away from the edges when you can, because the wall takes away half your choices. When the snake gets long, go in a loop or a back-and-forth pattern so that you always have a way out, and leave the tail’s path clear: the cell behind your last segment is free to enter on the next move. If two turns are queued up in a quick swipe, both are kept, so you can make a tight U-turn.
