How to play

The 56 cards show one to five of a pond snack: worms, flies, berries or snails. They’re all dealt out face down.

Take turns flipping your top card face up onto your own pile, covering your last one. Only the top card of each pile counts. As soon as exactly five of one snack are showing across the whole table (say three worms on one card and two on another), ring the bell. The first to ring takes every face-up card on the table, and flips next.

Ring when there aren’t exactly five of anything and you give one card to each other player. You can only ring wrongly once per card flipped.

When you have nothing left to flip you can still ring to win cards back. Once you have no cards at all, you’re out. The last player with cards wins, or whoever has the most when the flips run out.

Tips

Keep a running count of each snack as cards change, rather than adding up the whole table each time. Four or six of something is the usual trap.
