How to play Road Crew

A small town is growing around a grey depot. Its shops keep calling for visitors, shown as white dots on the shop. Each visitor is a duck that lives in a house of the shop’s color. One player is the planner, who draws the roads; everyone else is a driver, who steers a car around the town in 3D, picks up a duck at a house and drops it at a shop of the same color. Every duck delivered scores one.

A shop with five ducks waiting starts a red clock. If it stays that full for 45 seconds, the game is over. New houses appear every few seconds and a new shop (sometimes a new color) every minute or so, and shops call more often as the weeks go by.

Planning the roads

Drag across the map to lay road, one tile per square. Right-drag (or pick Erase) to lift road and get the tile back. Roads on water are bridges and use a bridge instead of a tile. Each week (a minute) brings 16 more tiles, and every other week another bridge. Houses and shops with a dashed outline aren’t joined to the depot yet.

Cars can cross grass, but only at a crawl, so a town without good roads gets slow fast. Short, direct roads between each neighborhood and its shop matter most.

Driving

Use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D: up to go, down to brake (hold it to reverse), left and right to steer. On a phone, use the pedals on the screen. The arrows above houses and shops show where to go next. Slow down next to a house to pick up a duck, and next to the right shop to drop it off. A car carries one duck at a time, and nobody picks up a duck that no shop is waiting for. The map in the corner shows the whole town.

Playing online

Make a room and share the code. The first player in plans; anyone can pick Plan the roads or Drive in the lobby, and the host can add computer drivers. With nobody planning, the computer lays the roads, and a driver can take the map over during the game. Friends can join a game that has already started; they get a car at the depot.

Practice runs the whole town on your device: plan the roads for computer drivers, or drive while the computer plans. Your best score is kept on this device.
