How to play

Each duck starts in the middle of one edge of a 9 × 9 pond. The first to reach the opposite edge, marked in its color, wins.

On your turn, do one of these:

  • Move your duck one square up, down, left or right. Reed walls block the way.
  • Plant a wall: a reed two squares long, in the groove between squares. Choose Wall, tap a square to put a wall along its corner, turn it across or down, then plant it.

Walls can’t overlap or cross, and they can never shut a duck in completely: every duck must always have some way to its edge. With two players you each get 10 walls, with three 7, and with four 5.

Meeting another duck: if a duck is right next to you, you can hop over it. If a wall or the edge is behind it, you can step diagonally to either side of it instead.

Tips

Walls are worth most when a rival is close to winning or when one wall makes them go a long way round. Don’t spend them all early: a player with walls left in the endgame is hard to beat. Watch your own path too; a wall that blocks a rival can block you as well. The numbers under each name show how many steps they still need.
