How to play
Letter Rush is a race. There are no turns: everyone gets the same number of letter tiles (11 in a quick game, 15 in a full one) and builds their own little crossword at the same time.
- Tap a tile, then a square, to place it. Tap a placed tile to pick it up and move it, or send it back to the rack. On a keyboard, click a square and type; click it again to type downwards, and Backspace takes a letter back.
- Your grid must be one connected crossword, and every line of two or more letters, across and down, must be a real word. Letters that spell a word that isn’t in the list turn red.
- When every tile is in your grid, press Done. If your grid checks out, everyone takes a new tile from the pool, and the race goes on. You can rearrange your whole grid at any time to fit new letters in.
- Stuck with a hard letter? Swap it: it goes back in the pool and you take three. With the pool nearly empty you take what’s left; with it empty, the tile just goes back.
- When the pool has fewer tiles than there are players, the next person to use every tile wins.
Tips
Start with a long word through the middle of the grid and hang shorter words off it. Keep a few easy letters (S, E, A) to fit awkward ones in. Two- and three-letter words like ZA aren’t in the list, but ZAG, ZAP, ZOO, JAB, JOT, QAT, AX and OX are. If a new letter won’t fit, it’s often quicker to break up one word and build two.
The word list is the public ENABLE list, the same one Word Pond and Word Grid use.
