Load planning

Seven lessons on building truck loads that are legal, safe, full and on time: what fits in a 53-foot trailer, weighing out and cubing out, axle weights and sliding tandems, stacking and securement, combining orders into multi-stop loads, and appointments, drive time and routes. Practice questions have you work out real loads.

How it works

Each lesson is a short read with worked examples, then a few practice questions. Some ask you to work out a number (pallets, pounds, hours, dollars), some have you pick what you’d do, and some have you tap steps into the right order. You can try again as often as you like; after two misses there’s a button to show the answer.

What do I need to know first?

Nothing. It starts from zero and explains every term, and it stands on its own. A calculator helps for the weight and axle questions. Limits are the US federal ones unless a lesson says otherwise.

The other trucking courses

Where is my progress saved? In this browser, like the rest of the site. Nothing to sign up for.

Which rules does it follow? The US federal size, weight, securement, hazmat and hours of service rules as of 2026 (23 CFR 658 and 49 CFR), unless a lesson names another place. States, provinces and other countries set their own, and rules change.

General training, not legal or compliance advice. Check the current rules for the roads you’ll use, and your company’s policies, before acting on anything here.
