How to play

The deck has cards numbered 1 to 8 for each kind of tree: six kinds with two players, eight with three and all ten with four. Everyone starts with seven cards.

On your turn, draw two cards, each from the deck or from the top of anyone’s discard pile. Then plant one card in your grove, next to a card you’ve already planted (not diagonally), and discard one onto your own pile. When the last card is drawn from the deck, that turn is the last.

Scoring

For each kind of tree, everyone adds up the cards of that kind still in their hand. Only whoever holds the highest total may score that kind (ties all score). An 8 counts as nothing if someone else holds the 1 of the same tree. If nobody holds any, everyone may score it.

You score your best path of that kind: a line of cards next to each other, climbing in number, that starts and ends on that tree. The cards in between can be any tree. A path scores 1 point a card, or 2 a card if it’s at least four long and every card is the same tree. Starting on a 1 adds 1 point, and ending on an 8 adds 2. The most points wins.

Tips

Every card you discard might be just what someone else needs. Leave gaps in your numbers so later cards can slot into a path, and keep a few high cards of the trees you’re planting until the end.
