How to play
There is one secret five-letter word each day, the same for everyone. Type a guess and press Enter. Each letter then turns green if it is in the word and in the right place, yellow if it is in the word but in a different place, or grey if it is not in the word at all. You have six guesses. If a letter appears twice in your guess but only once in the word, only one of them is colored. The keyboard below the grid remembers what you have learned about each letter.
Turn on Hard mode to make yourself use every hint: green letters must stay where they are, and yellow letters must be used in later guesses. When the game ends, Share your result copies a grid of colored squares with no letters, so you can show how it went without giving away the word. Your streak counts days in a row that you solved the puzzle. Use Practice for as many extra words as you like; they don’t change your streak.
Tips
Start with a word that has several common letters and different vowels, such as “stare” or “about”. Use your second guess to test letters you haven’t tried, even if it is not a possible answer. Think about where letters can go: few English words start with two vowels, and Q is nearly always followed by U. Answers are everyday words, not plurals of short words or obscure terms. Your guess does not have to be a dictionary word; any five letters are accepted.
