How to play Duck Rally

Drive the kart from the start to the finish as fast as you can. The clock starts when you first press the gas and stops when you cross the finish line. You can restart as often as you like.

  • Gas and brake: the up and down arrows (or W and S), the Gas and Brake buttons on a phone, or the triggers on a controller. Hold the brake when you’re stopped to reverse.
  • Lean: the left and right arrows (or A and D) tip the kart back or forward. In the air this turns the kart; on the ground it only leans a little.
  • In the air: holding the gas lifts the nose, and the brake drops it. On a long jump, let go of the gas or lean forward, or the kart flips over.
  • Restart: press R, Enter or Backspace, the Restart button, or Y on a controller. You’re back on the start line at once.
  • Checkpoints: you pass through every one on the way. The time at each shows in green when you’re ahead of your best run, and in red when you’re behind.
  • Crashes: land on the roof, or drop into a gap, and you go back to the last checkpoint at the speed you passed it. The clock keeps running.
  • Boost pads: the blue arrows give you a burst of speed, enough to clear the gap after them.

Today’s track is the same for everyone and changes at midnight. Practice gives you a new track whenever you want one, and you can share its link.

Medals

Every track has four target times. Bronze, silver and gold get harder in turn. The author time is what our test driver did: it holds the gas the whole way and turns the kart in the air to land flat.

Tips

  • Land with both wheels at once, matching the slope you land on. A flat landing keeps your speed; landing on the back of the kart loses it.
  • At full speed the kart takes off over hilltops too. Be ready to steer it in the air, not just on the big jumps.
  • Watch the faint kart. It’s your best run so far, played again, so you can see where you lose time.
  • If a run goes wrong early, restart straight away. It’s quicker than finishing a slow one.

Questions

Is it free? Yes. No account, no download, nothing to pay for.

Can every track be finished? Yes. Before you see a track, our test driver races it at full and at half throttle, and a track it can’t finish cleanly is replaced.

Where are my times saved? In your browser on this device, along with the ghost of your best run. Clearing your site data resets them.

Can I play on a phone? Yes. Hold it sideways for the biggest view, with the lean buttons on the left and the pedals on the right.
