How to play Duck Groups
Each day there are 16 words hiding four groups of four. Every group has something in common: they might all be kinds of cheese, words that go before “ball”, or words with a smaller word hidden inside.
- Tap four words you think belong together, then press Submit.
- If they’re a group, the group’s name appears and the words move out of the grid.
- If not, you lose one of your four mistakes. One away means three of your four words are in the same group.
- Shuffle mixes up the words left; Deselect all clears your picks.
Groups are colored by how hard they are: yellow is the easiest, then green, blue and purple, the trickiest.
Tips
- Watch for words that seem to fit two groups. Usually one of them is a decoy, so look for a fifth candidate before you submit.
- Purple groups are often about the word itself, not its meaning: what comes before or after it, how it sounds, or the letters inside it.
- If you’re stuck, find the easiest group first. With fewer words left, the hard ones get clearer.
Questions
When is there a new puzzle? At midnight where you are. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same day.
How does the streak work? It counts days in a row that you solved the puzzle on its own day. Past puzzles lets you play any earlier day, but those don’t change your streak.
What does Share do? It copies a grid of colored squares, one row per guess, with no words in it, so you can show how it went without spoiling it.
Is it free? Yes, with no account. Your streak and results are kept in this browser, on this device.
