How to play
- Each player shoots from their own quarter of the outer line. Slide your disc along the line with Start, tap the board to aim (Middle points it at the hole), set the power and press Shoot.
- If the other side has any discs on the board, your shot must hit one of them, directly or by knocking another disc into it. Miss, and your disc comes off, along with any of yours it moved.
- If the other side has no discs on the board, your shot must stop inside the 15 line (or drop in the hole), or it comes off.
- A disc that drops in the hole in the middle scores 20 straight away. Discs that end on or outside the outer line, or slide off the edge, come off.
- Two players shoot 12 discs each; four players shoot 6 each, with partners sitting opposite. Then the round is scored.
Scoring
- Discs inside the 15 line score 15, inside the 10 line 10, and the rest 5. A disc touching a line takes the lower score.
- Add each side’s 20s. The side with more points scores the difference; the other scores nothing that round.
- First to 100 wins (or 50 for a short game).
Tips
The eight pegs around the 15 line make good cover: a disc tucked behind one is hard to hit. When you must hit, a firm shot that knocks their disc off and leaves yours on the board is worth the most. Late in a round, the last shot is a big advantage, so the side shooting first should keep the board busy.
About the game
Crokinole is a Canadian board game from the 1870s, played on a round wooden board with pegs, still popular in clubs and at an annual world championship.
