How to play

The computer hides a secret code: a row of colored pegs, and the same color can appear more than once. You have a limited number of guesses to find it. Pick a color for each slot (tap a slot, then a color, or use keys 1 to 8) and press Guess. Next to each guess you get two kinds of clue: a black dot for each peg that is the right color in the right place, and a white dot for each peg that is a right color in the wrong place. The dots don’t tell you which pegs they refer to; working that out is the puzzle. Every peg also has a shape, so the colors can be told apart without relying on color alone.

Classic mode has 4 pegs and 6 colors with 10 guesses. Hard mode has 5 pegs and 8 colors with 12 guesses. The Hint button fills in a code that fits all the clues so far; using it means the game doesn’t count for a best score.

Tips

Use your first guess to learn about colors, for example two colors twice in a 4-peg game (red red blue blue). From then on, make each guess something that could still be the answer, which means it agrees with every clue you have so far. Keep a note of what each clue rules out. Most classic games can be solved in five or six guesses this way.
