How to play

Everyone gets six cards face down in two rows of three, and nobody looks at them. To start, each player turns up any two of their own cards. One card from the deck starts the discard pile.

On your turn, either take the top discard and swap it for one of your six cards, or draw from the deck. A drawn card can be swapped for one of your cards, or thrown away, in which case you turn up one of your face-down cards. Whatever you swap out goes face up on the discard pile.

When a player has all six cards face up, everyone else gets one more turn. Then every card is turned up and the hole is scored.

Scoring

Ace 1, two minus 2, three to ten their face value, jack and queen 10, king 0. Two cards of the same rank in a column cancel out and score 0, so a pair of queens is as good as two kings. Play 9 holes (or 3 for a quick game); the lowest total wins.

Tips

Low cards and pairs are what you want. A face-up 10 or jack is worth replacing with almost anything. Don’t rush to turn up your last card unless your total is already low: everyone else gets a turn to catch up, and your face-down cards count too.

Playing together

On one device, set up to six seats with people and computer players; nothing is secret, so just pass it round. Online, everyone plays from their own phone.
