How to play Beat Hop
Your square slides to the right on its own, in time with the music. Every tile of the level is a sixteenth note, so the jumps land on the beat. Touch a spike or run into the side of a block and the attempt is over; the next one starts straight away.
- Jump: Space, the up arrow, a click or a tap. Hold the button and the square jumps again every time it lands.
- Blocks: you can land on top of them and slide along. Only their sides and undersides are dangerous.
- Yellow pads: touch one to be thrown high in the air.
- Yellow rings: press while you pass through one to jump again in mid-air.
- Portals: the orange portal flips gravity so you run along the ceiling; the blue one turns it back.
Practice mode
Practice drops a checkpoint every couple of seconds while you’re on the ground, and starts you again from the last one when you break. Press Z (or Add checkpoint) to drop one yourself and X to remove the last one. Practice runs don’t count towards your best or your attempts.
Tips
- Listen. The obstacles sit on the beat, so jumping with the kick drum is usually right.
- Three spikes in a row need a jump from right before the first one. Wait for it.
- For a row of spikes with a ring above it, jump early and press again as you pass through the ring.
- Upside down, the jump goes downwards. Everything else works the same.
- Stuck on one part? Switch to practice, learn it, then play it for real.
